He attended Kalamazoo College and spent 6 months of his junior year attending the University of Bonn in Germany (abt. 1967). He was editor-in-chief of his college newspaper and won a prize of $50 for an article he wrote on the Cologne Cathedral and the Dachau Concentration Camp, both of which he visited.
