    Promated to L/Cpl, Cpl and Sgt. Wounded in action (19 Jul 1916) but recovered and undertook an officer training course from which he graduated to join the 5th. Machine Gun Battalion, Australian Infantry as a 2nd. Lieutenant. Shortly after he applied for and was successful in completing a flying course from which he graduated successfully as a Lieutenant in the Australian Flying Corps (AFC). It appears that he was badly injured in a flying accident about this time but recovered completely. On return to Australia he joined the fledgling RAAF as a Flying Officer flying instructor at Point Cook VIC.

    Buried with full military honours (RAAF).

    Died:
    Died in a aircraft accident (flying in a DeHavilland DH9) in which both he and his student were killed.

    William married NAVIN Emma Sophia 1920. Emma (daughter of NAVIN John Aloysius and JERMYN Bertha Caroline) was born 1898, Ballarat VIC; died Jan 1980, Melbourne VIC; was buried 14 Jan 1980, Box Hill Cemetery, Box Hill VIC. [Group Sheet]
