Frederick William HERD (1894-1954) was a patient at the Geelong Hospital between 18 Mar 1915 and 6 Apr 1915. The disease as listed was Bubonocele [groin hernia] and his address was 85 Garden Street, East Geelong VIC. (Ref. Film 738, GHRC, Geelong Hospital Admission Books).

Served as a Lieutenant in the Australian Citizen Military Forces prior to signing up to serve overseas.

Military:
Seriously wounded by gun shots in his back and both thighs on 27 Feb 1917 while serving on the Western Front. Repatriated firstly to England and later to Australia as a result.

He was granted an incapacity pension of 51/9 (fifty-one shillings and nine pence, or 2 pounds, 11 shillings and nine pence) per fortnight on 5 Apr 1918, the day following his discharge from the AIF on the grounds of incapacity due to serious wounds sustained on active service in FRA.
