Military:
Alfred Edwin BRAY (1872-1953) made his own way to South Africa. Service Numbers: 889, 7 and 646.
19 Apr 1900 to 15 Dec 1900 as a Corporal, F Squadron, Bethune's Mounted Infantry.
16 Dec 1900 to 22 Feb 1901 as a Sergeant in the Mennes Scouts.
12 May 1902 to 30 Jun 1902 as a Trooper in the Bushveldt Carbineers which was the unit in which Breaker Morant had earlier served.

Military:
Arrived at Gallipoli on 8 May 1915. Badly wounded on 1 Jun 1915. After evacuation to Cairo and recovery from his wounds he transferred to the Army School of Instruction at Zeitoun, Egypt where he was subsequently promoted to Corporal and Sergeant. Re-admitted to hospital on 23 Jul 1916 suffering with Neurasthenia. The decision to discharge was quickly taken and after a return to Australia on the Hospital Transport ship "Borda" he was discharged on 18 Oct 1916. He was granted a pension of £3-9-0 ($12.90).
