- Served as an navigator attached to RAF Bomber Command during WWII. His Lancaster bomber was shot down over Dusseldorf, Germany in Aug 1942 where he was taken prisoner firstly at Stalag 8B at Lamsdorf and later at Stalagluft 3 at Sagan. Marched across Germany to Lubeck to freedom in 1945. Stalagluft 3 was the camp from which "The Great Escape" took place and about 50 of the escapees were illegally executed for doing so. Lest We Forget.
