    PIPER, Murray Francis (1946-2017)

    Murray Piper was a day student from 31 May 1950 to December 1964 at Geelong College. When he first enrolled he was resident at 56 Upper Skene St, Newtown, Geelong. At College, he was a member of the Library Committees of 1962 and 1963, the Library Council of 1964, the Pegasus Committee from 1962 to 1964, and Shannon House.

    He worked for Travelcall and Thomas Cook in Sydney before returning to Melbourne to work for BTI Australia.

    Murray Piper died on 5 July 2017, aged 71 years at the Alfred Hospital, Melbourne.

    Francis Oswald HERD founded the Geelong wholesale butcher M.C. Herd Pty. Ltd. in the name of his wife Maud Cecelia HERD (m.n. LAMB).

    After a service leaving from his home at 29 Mount Pleasant Road, Belmont VIC. Remembered on a plaque at Springvale Botanical Cemetery and much later (23 Mar 2005) on a headstone at the Barrabool Hills Cemetery, Highton VIC. The year of death on the headstone appears to be incorrect showing 1 Aug 1950 instead of 1 Aug 1951. However the age appears correct at 69 years.

    Francis married LAMB Maud Cecelia 26 Mar 1913, St. John's Church, Highton VIC. Maud was born 17 Jan 1883, Ceres VIC; died 25 Jul 1956, 29 Mount Pleasant Road, Belmont VIC. [Group Sheet]

    Remembered on a plaque at Springvale Botanical Cemetery and much later (23 Mar 2005) on a headstone in the Barrabool Hills Cemetery, Highton VIC. The Headstone at Barrabool Hills Cemetery shows Maud's age at passing as 76 years which appears to be incorrect as she was born at Ceres VIC on 17 Jan 1883 making her age at death 73.

    Mystery surrounds the movement of William HERD from Sydney to Melbourne after his initial arrival in Sydney. Recent information which is unconfirmed, is that he stayed on in Sydney with some of his PARK relatives, while the rest of the family journeyed on to Melbourne. One thing is certain and that is that his name does not appear on the passenger list of the "Hope", the interstate vessel on which the remainder of the family travelled to Melbourne.

    Arrived Sydney NSW aboard the 'Mandarin' arriving on 18 Oct 1838. Believed to have stayed with PARK family relatives in Sydney before following the rest of his family to Port Phillip VIC.
