- On June 30, 1971, Alpha retired from teaching.
Her first school was S.S. # 11 Uxbridge in 1924-5 and 1925-6. Her second school was S.S.# 2 Scugog, (Centre School) 1926-7. She boarded at Stephenson's (now Maurice Fralick's) and married George Feb. 12, 1927. Immediately, nastly letters began appearing in the Port Perry Star about the immorality of married teachers teaching. Alpha resigned in June and did not teach again until Manchester School trustees in Feb. or Mar. 1950 begged her to come and finish the year since the school had about 50 students and several big boys in grade 8 had literally driven out several teachers that year. She went and stayed 8 years. Alpha always was amused by the fact that each of these schools was demolished the year she left. A new school was built in Pine Grove 1928, similiarly at Scugog. Manchester students were transported to Port Perry.
