- Commissioned in 1909. Served with the 1st., 3rd. and 9th. Light Horse Regiments and with the HQ of the ANZAC Mounted Division in the AIF at Gallipoli and in the Middle East. This distinguished soldier was Mentioned in Despatches on five occasions and was decorated with a DSO toward the end of the war. He also received the Order of Karageorge 4th. class with swords from the King of Serbia. Following the end of WWI in which he had risen to the rank of Lt-Col. he was sent to the Imperial Staff College at Camberley in England on a Staff course.
