- Leonard Richard HOOPER was on board the hospital ship 'Centaur' which was torpedoed by a Japanese submarine off the coast of Queensland adjacent to Morton Bay on 14 May 1943. His survival was very lucky as about 200 souls perished.
Rose steadily through the ranks finally being commissioned as Lieutenant on 31 Oct 1944.
