Notes |
- Herbert Edward SUMNER (1883-1923) was committed to the Neglected Childrens System (No. 17809) on 24 November 1890 soon after the arrest of his father for coining (counterfeiting). He was fostered at several addresses in the Bendigo area and later at Burnley and Cheltenham. The first occurrences of problems with his "bad leg" are recorded in his record as he was admitted to the Melbourne Hospital on three occasions during 1899 and the Cheltenham address is that of Mrs. HARCOURT's Convalescent Home. His leg must have recovered to some extent as he absconded on Christmas Day 1899. There is an added note on his record as follows: "stopping temporarily at Mechanics Hotel, Bourke St. City. Has been employed mining at Broken Hill - 22/3/07".

Place of death
Died at 49 Moore Street, Fitzroy. Arthur TUCKER, son in law of Joseph McGINTY lived in the same street. Same house?
Source:- The will of Joseph McGINTY. A codicil to the will revokes a bequest of 50 pounds to Arthur TUCKER. I wonder what he did to deserve this treatment?
