Australia, Palestine, Greece & Germany as a POW [2] |
Served during WWII as No. VX6714, Lieutenant, Headquarter Guard Battalion and 2/6th. Battalion, Royal Australian Inftantry Corps, 2nd. AIF. |
- His headstone shows that he was awarded a Military Medal (MM) but the award is not listed on any of the web sites which record these awards. It should also be stated that the MM was awarded only to non-commissioned members of the Army and not to commissioned officers. As he was commissioned prior to serving overseas it is difficult to see how he earned a MM. Following his passing, his wife Alison wrote to the Central Army Records Office regarding the MM and they were quite adamant that they had no record of any entitlement to that decoration.
He was reported missing in action on 26 June 1941 during the disasterous Greek campaign and subsequently spent the remaining days of WWII in German POW camps.
