Reported and confirmed as a Prisoner of War on 28 Nov 1916 in Dülmen GER.
Released and transfered to Ripon POW Reception Camp YKS on 8 Dec 1918.

Reading the records of William ELLIS while serving in the AIF reveals that he had many problems with the discipline of the Army. He was well under age when he signed up with parental permission. Perhaps a couple more years of maturity would have made his time in the AIF much happier.

18006 Wounded in action at least once. As a result of wounds a leg was amputated on 7 Jun 1917. There seems to some confusion about which leg was lost. Repatriated home to Australia in early 1918. While Joseph was away serving his country both his parents had passed away.
